From the page: "I am upset about the extravagant use of my federal tax dollars to subsidize meat ... It averages out to each individual paying an incredible $15 to $30 in tax dollars per pound of meat" WOW, I never realized it was that much.

" * I am upset about the extravagant use of my federal tax dollars to subsidize meat, making an expensive food that has no benefit other than perceived taste and texture over vegetable alternatives into a cheap commodity. It averages out to each individual paying an incredible $15 to $30 in tax dollars per pound of meat just so we can afford to buy it at a restaurant or grocery. The IRS is double checking my taxes in part to make sure Iâ€m paying my share of somebody elseâ€s meat purchases. I strongly suggest you check out my reference since this one is just a ridiculous use of tax dollars and I donâ€t expect you to believe me at face value. (http://www.pcrm.org)"

"My reasons for being a vegetarian are not quite the usual ones.- To me it is as appetizing as a dead and mutilated baby." This article mentions real good reasons for going vegetarian, about how it effects the environment and such. Although this does mention- We are designed just barely well enough to eat meat without getting ill. That could not be further from the truth, it has been directly proven that the consumption of animal products causes people to be ill.

Being vegetarian takes lots of energy to explain omnivores "why I practice that"....well I had almost given up on explaining that or I would say I would like to be in the bottom most animal in the food chain.... ppl in good humor use to let me off. This web page has some authentic data to answer the question above and to decrease the pressure on our eco-system.

** LR ~ as an unrepentant omnivore, I find myself agreeing with mysticalspork, " These are reasons to boycott factory farms, not to eschew all meat. Buying produce from your average grocery store will still support industrial agriculture. It's not what you eat that's important, it's where you get it." This is exactly why I buy organic produce, from local grower whenever possible. This is why I buy my meat products from local, and personally known, ranchers whenever possible - I know what and how they feed their herds, as well as their treatment of these animals. This is why I actively and constantly research new sustainable methods to feed myself and my family, in addition to making as small a footprint on this planet as I can.
