An interesting video demonstrating that an artist, blind since birth, is able to understand and accurately draw depth and perspective in landscapes both natural and architectural. Now the programme beats its drum about perspective but what I say is: How does he "see" colour? How does Esref Armagan "know" the sea is blue, trees are green and some flowers are yellow? Are colours tactile as well?

Many thanks to tetrapod78 who shared the link.

Blind painter who "sees" shapes and colors and understands perspective

An astonishing video about a painter who is blind and uses not only color but has a sense of shading and, most surprising, a sense of perspective. The video shows scientists puzzling over his abilities. I am sure they have learned something from him but I wonder if they have learned this: the human brain is far more complex than we understand despite all our confident pronouncements about how it works. Go watch. Thanks to the stumbler http://geckotape.stumbleupon.com for the find.

A blind Turkish painter's understanding of representing depth and geometric perspective is studied at Harvard and the University of Toronto. First rate. Thank you Yonka! http://www.Yonka.stumbleupon.com/

In this video a man born without eyes draws in perspective, making the point that dimension is a function of space and depth, not just vision. I'm assuming this is how sonar works, no? You don't need eyes to see. His website and gallery: Esref Armagan /www.armagan.com/view.asp?i=3">
