For all those Americans (and Canadians!) who have ever been talked to by an Englishman, and gone 'WTF R U SAYING?' ... this way you don't have to embarrass yourself! Yes. We know you're out there.

this is amusing. It goes beyond regionalism. I learned a few new things about my native or first language. I can count and say a few phrases in Spanish and French but I don't think it counts as being bi-lingual. Britts do have some odd words.

This may come in handy for some, I ended up sniggering at most of it. Worth a look though, and definately good for a laugh.

Finding sites like this is what makes SU so wonderful. It is fascinating to browse through the words.

silly fun for most, usefull in avoiding some miscomunications, but for some of use who like to trace the origin of some words and phrases there is also a lot of good information here.

From the page: "As a Scot who has spent some time in the USA working and on holiday, I have discovered a bewildering array of words which are in common use on our side of the pond and invariably mean nothing at all or something exceedingly rude on the other. I once noted down about fifteen of them and that afternoon formulated them into this dictionary. Since then the dictionary has thrived (well, fed) on contributions from readers and one day may be a half-decent reference. "
