rodneyj43 rated 3 months ago- It's no huge secret that Iran and Israel have been exchanging nuclear-tipped threats as of late, and that Iran sees itself as the last Islamic state in the world that is capable enough to stand up to Israel and the rest of the world - which is precisely what makes this rhetoric so provocative. The UN efforts to curb Iran's nuclear program rings of hypocrisy considering that everybody knows Israel has nuclear weapons, yet they are not a formal member of the nuclear club because they have not admitted to possession of such weaponry. Considering the global economic conditions, this ongoing conflict could easily become the flashpoint of WWIII. In order to avoid this, and have any hope of solving this problem diplomatically, Israel should be pressured to admit that they possess nuclear weapons and formally join the nuclear club (and sign the non-proliferation treaty) such that Pakistan, India and N. Korea can all be pressured to do the same. In the age of the internet, diplomatic double standards simply cannot stand and we are all just one global economic downturn away from WWIII (unless we've chosen to completely forget the lessons learned from the world wars during the last century). It's clear that Islamic peasants all over the middle east see Ahmadinejad as their only hope against world support of hellish dictators in the area for purposes of securing cheaper oil prices. If the US were in the position of Iran these "terrorists" would be considered "freedom fighters" not unlike the guerrilla fighters of the american revolution. We cannot maintain this double standard simply to keep the more affluent consumers of the world comfortable and complacent. Every product we buy has a human price to it, no matter if we chose to see it or not, and it no longer can be so easily dismissed. It's time for the global consumers to take responsibility for their actions - whether it be fair pricing with respect to labor and environment, or it be the price of mushroom clouds in a global conflict over what amounts to a fight over the world's remaining resources. From the page: " Israel is not a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and refuses to officially confirm or deny having a nuclear arsenal, or having developed nuclear weapons, or even having a nuclear weapons program. Israel has pledged not to be the first country to introduce nuclear weapons into the region, but is also pursuing a policy of strategic ambiguity with regard to their possession. In the late 1960s, Israeli Ambassador to the US Yitzhak Rabin informed the United States State Department, that its understanding of "introducing" such weapons meant that they would be tested and publicly declared, while merely possessing the weapons did not constitute "introducing" them.[37] Although Israel claims that the Negev Nuclear Research Center near Dimona is a "research reactor", or, as was originally claimed, a "textile factory," no scientific reports based on work done there have ever been published. Extensive information about the program in Dimona was also disclosed by technician Mordechai Vanunu in 1986. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Federation of American Scientists, Israel possesses around 75-200 weapons.[38] Imagery analysts can identify weapon bunkers, mobile missile launchers, and launch sites in satellite photographs. Israel may have tested a nuclear weapon along with South Africa in 1979, but this has never been confirmed (see Vela Incident)."
