Kaprekar's constant - named after an Indian mathematician of the same name , Any 4 digit number using Kaprekar's operation will give you 6174. Any three digit number will give you the sum 495. This is not applicable to two, five and seven digit numbers. As far as I can see, the number has no significance (unlike Pi) but this is the beauty of numbers - in the symmetry and the labor of love in working out such oddities before the modern day computing resources were available..
