I was reminded of my favorite female artist, Frida Kahlo, by my post below; what an interesting life, I find her life more interesting than her work! Communist sympathizer, bisexual and one-time lover of Josephine Baker; and how she turned her life-changing injury recovery time into a time to train herself as an artist despite her constant pain. I love how before she died of natural causes she wrote "I hope the end is joyous and I hope never to return" I will have to pick up a Kahlo book and I have also heard Salma Hayek's film about Frida Kahlo was top-notch.

___Frida Kahlo ___ (July 6, 1907 - July 13, 1954) born Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón was an internationally popular Mexican painter. She painted using vibrant colors in a style that was influenced by indigenous cultures of Mexico and European influences including Realism, Symbolism, and Surrealism. Many of her works are self-portraits that symbolically express her own pain and sexuality. Kahlo was married to Mexican muralist Diego Rivera. QUOTES * A little while ago, not much more than a few days ago, I was a child who went about in a world of colors, of hard and tangible forms. Everything was mysterious and something was hidden, guessing what it was was a game for me. If you knew how terrible it is to know suddenly, as if a bolt of lightning elucidated the earth. Now I live in a painful planet, transparent as ice; but it is as if I had learned everything at once in seconds. o Letter to Alejandro Gómez Arias, (1926-09-29 * I drank because I wanted to drown my sorrows, but now the damned things have learned to swim. o Letter to Ella Wolfe, "Wednesday 13," 1938, My Grandparents, My Parents and I, 1936 Broken Column
