For some folks, being "counter" is enough. I would be considered "counter", but not because I want to be, not because it makes me cool, but because I don't like what is often called "mainstream". If a big movie comes out over the weekend and makes lots of money and everyone goes to see it, chances are I won't like it. Why? Because to appeal to so many, it had to include aspects common or appealing to all, which usually means taking advantage of the silly monkey within. That's *MY* monkey and not just anyone gets to play with it! So while I can agree that something like this book needed to be written, I don't think the arguments they use resonate with me. Furthermore, by using the tired idea that "nothing you do will change anything", and by omitting what they believe to be "useful" counter-cultural behaviour, the authors have shown themselves to be apathetic whiners. Masturbation is to sex as philosophy is to reality. -Karl Marx

Don't agree completely, but it's a good theory.
