I never did believe in homeopathy, "natural medicine" and herbal medicine. This is an excellent article debunking the myths and other notions regarding the above stated "therapies". Be grateful for the scientific discoveries and the advancement of science which does benefit us directly in so many different ways, our health just one aspect of it.

When I was in middle school, a large percentage of our science grade was determined by a 10-minute oral presentation on a system of the body, with detailed drafts turned in beforehand that we were to stick to precisely. Because I didn't bother starting mine until the day after it was due Through a scheduling mix-up, I was assigned to present directly after another girl who was also covering the sensory system. She was a classic overachiever and had clearly prepared well, with an itemized outline, neatly-bound notes, and a 2-foot-tall hand-drawn poster displaying the taste map of the tongue.Sometimes when I glare at people, I try to channel her face as it looked that day while I stood in front of the class, adhered to my outline, and explained that her visualand thereby half of her projectwas bullshit. She was sort of a bitch anyway, though.

THANK YOU! This is pretty much all correct, most of the time, these things are filled with speculation and fallacy, but this does all the exact opposite. Everybody should read this and be less paranoid about certain things. As someone else said, healthcare worker approved!

Here's an excellent article I wish I could show to every alternative-medicine/fasting/homeopathic fanatic. From the page: "The vaccine worry highlights the core myths associated with alternative medicine. First, the ancient "natural" world was somehow a better place, less polluted and with less stress. Second, ancient peoples knew how to care for themselves with natural remedies that "restore balance" by channelling unseen energy forces in the universe. Nothing could be further from the truth. Life was much harder as little as 100 years ago. Children died. Disease wiped out entire cities. For most of humanity, indoor air was filled with soot and faeces. Families constantly stressed over where the next meal would come from. No herbal medicine or incantation routinely worked to cure disease. Few lived past the age of 50, no matter if they practiced yoga and thought happy thoughts, as Deepak Chopra and Andrew Weil teach us. Surprisingly, many in this modern world subscribe to the idea that disease is not caused by pathogens but rather an "unbalance" or "negative energy". They take untested herbs, much like medieval Europeans, to restore this balance. Or they practice qigong to move so-called qi (chi) energy through the body to initiate some mystic healing practice. Only people in the wealthiest of nations are subscribing to ancient practices, often banned in developing countries. We seem to be so content, so caught up with myths, that we have forgotten how the advances of real science through the 20th century - the germ theory of disease, for one - have made life that much more pleasant."
