Let us not allow WWI to help facilitate the beginning of WWIII by pursuing this issue of genocide! Almost a century ago and an empire long gone, Turkey is a good and very necessary ally in a region wrought with hostility towards us. There may very well have been purposeful genocide committed against Armenians. However, our government has no business in defining what people should and should not think about an issue which took place 90 years ago. WWI ended the old hegemonies. Let's move on. The Democrats in the House of Representatives, whom are pushing this issue, have seen how the Turks reacted to France's declaration of genocide and are trying to use this issue to end the Iraq war by causing Turkey to disallow American military supply routes across its borders and airspace to Iraq. It is a foolish attempt that will cost the lives of American soldiers whom would not have otherwise died if they had the tools to accomplish their missions. It will also create a greater likelihood that Turkey will invade Northern Iraq to quell Kurdish attacks. Nobody knows what repercussions this will have on the region.
