No, the planet is fucked, with or without us. Nothing lasts forever. Not to mention, mass extinction was doing pretty well before we got here. We sure as hell didn't invent it. But hey, like they say, what doesn't kill us only delays the inevitable.

The quote is fine as long as you're only talking about the physical planet and not the biosphere. I think it's fairly obvious we've done massive damage to all the worlds ecosystems that is resulting in unrest and death in some communities. Yes in the end it is about saving the human race, but that's not such a bad thing surely?
