U N I X / L i n u x H i s t o r y ---------------------------------- In 1965 computer scientists from Bell Labs & GE (General Electric) joined an effort underway at MIT on the Multics (Multiplexed Information and Computing Service) project. The aim was to produce a general purpose system, that would be economically viable, i.e it could be sold. However Bell Labs withdrew from the project in 1969.
