Username2000 discovered 10 months ago- Only in America. From the page: "A community college instructor in Red Oak claims he was fired after he told his students that the biblical story of Adam and Eve should not be literally interpreted. Steve Bitterman, 60, said officials at Southwestern Community College sided with a handful of students who threatened legal action over his remarks in a western civilization class Tuesday. He said he was fired Thursday."

- But...but whales DO speak in French at the bottom of the sea.

childofthought rated 10 months ago- Well I say old Steve is better off. Who would want to be stuck in a stuffy closed-minded place like that? Sure not me. You know, the people who believe Adam and Eve were original man and woman don't even have to be wrong to be told that there could be positive lessons to be learned by relating to them as metaphors. It's only a challenge directly if you make it that. There are those that will find fault in the smallest of things. You can't please everyone all of the time. That's why I say... "Chart your own map. Think for yourself."

john77075 rated 10 months ago- The guy cannot be to smart, he lives in Iowa

kalah rated 10 months ago- Everything comes down to a fucking lawsuit, doesn't it? The college is more concerned over any legal ramifications (which, by the way, they would most certainly beat in court, as we have the freedom to not be religious) than they are about intellectual honesty and open discourse. Fuck.

Mayamoi rated 10 months ago- The bible should be taken literally? This is what those moronic students wanted to hear? Why are they even in school? Send those jerks to Iraq to fight for bush's oil he needs fresh meat and that sounds like all those bible thumping air heads are good for. Give me a break. America! Hello? Wake the heck up.

und1sk0 rated 10 months ago- This school should loose accrediation.

1389AD rated 10 months ago- I don't agree with the professor, but I don't think there was any need to fire him. His opinion is his own. By the same token the students who disagree should be able to make their point without fear of reprisal.
BTW, mitochondrial and Y-chromosome studies of human beings today do support the assertion that we are all the descendents of one female and one male ancestor.
We are not the same as chimps or other animals. Even though we live in the same world and are made up of many of the same building blocks, it is obvious to me that the Lord did something special to make human beings in His own image.- I don't agree with the professor, but I don't think there was any need to fire him. His opinion is his own. By the same token the students who disagree should be able to make their point without fear of reprisal.

kiamal rated 10 months ago- Some people get offended if they hear the true story about Santa, god or any other favorite super hero. It is both kids and adults that are showing this behavior. Unlike the case with kids, these adults don't really have a good excuse for doing this... :)

420nickname420 rated 10 months ago- Well fellow stumblers, we now know how they are living in Iowa, in definite fear of a falsified figure named "God." Science > God...........God < Science
