Rebuttal to greenpeace's top ten reasons against nuclear. Very enjoyable read!

I would have preferred more references, but this article serves as a refreshing reminder of just how far out of touch with reality groups like Greenpeace have become.

If the goal is to control CO2 emissions, then, yes, nuclear power would be the "least worst" solution but it is far from the ideal answer to our energy crisis. Building nuclear power plants, OMG WE HAVE TO START NOW (as proposed by the blogger), is only shifting the timescale of our problems. We are pushing the responsibility of dealing with nuclear waste to a later generation. The entire blog entry is based much more on opinion than on real facts. For example, we do not spend billions upon billions researching solar energy, at least not solar energy that an average consumer can use. Finally, the infrastructure for widespread use of nuclear power is simply not there for us to start building power plants tomorrow. On the most basic level, there wouldn't be enough nuclear technicians available to operate these highly complex facilities.

Nuclear energy is the only viable source of energy when fossil fuels are depleted. Why can't those people see that?

They had this discussion in Sweden 30 years ago. The people voted and decided to get rid of nuclear power since it's ultimately dangerous. It didn't quite happen as fast as it was decided on, but there is a lot of time and energy being spent on this issue since there are tons of sustainable power options out there. Most homes and many business can be self-sustainable with a few modifications, it's more an issue of a mind-set than anything else. The technology already exist. To dismiss the connection between nuclear energy and nukes is simply ignorant. Why is the UK interested in purchasing Sweden's uranium. What is the reason the US is all over Iran for developing nuclear energy? What country utilizes nuclear energy the most, and have the WMDs? Come on now. Bashing well meaning hippies is one thing, to argument just for argument's sake just to "win" the argument is different. But the author is 22 yo and in "competitive mode" still, so I forgive him. Now let's explore the alternative energy section a bit closer.

Nuclear power is the worst you can think of, except for all the other options. (like democracy). I think greenpeace is spreading FUD about nuclear power for years, it's about time someone stands up and tell the truth.

I am not sure about the waste management, but the rest is fairly obvious for anyone with some brains.

When Greenpeace comes up with arguments against nuclear power like: "Nuclear power plants are a terrorist target," "Nuclear power is unpopular," and "Nuclear power limits clean energy" it's hard to take them seriously. This article is obviously biased in favor of nuclear power, and I haven't done the research necessary to validate the (sensible subset of) claims made by either side.

Solar energy is power from the sun, not uranium, coal, gas, oil or any other fuel. It's not going to deplete soon. And by "soon" I mean "the time our nuclear waste stops radiating".

Compared to our alternatives (currently, at least) nuclear power is a good idea. I'm not saying we should completely rely on it and abandon further energy research, but as we stand, nuclear power is an important step to clean energy. I can say it's a hell of a lot better than coal/gas (and a hell of a lot more realistic than a 400 square mile solar panel or a wind farm - which by the way is very dangerous to local avians.)
