From the page: "The broadband revolution--much like the radio, television, cable, and online revolutions of the recent past--provides yet another opportunity to make our media system more democratic, more diverse, and more participatory. It is incumbent upon community activists and leaders, recognizing the power of broadband, to become more actively involved in the design and deployment of the new high-speed networks that will bring video, data, and telephone services to our homes and businesses. I am seeing more and more business forces working against the democratic nature of the internet. If we and our governments are not careful, it will be those motivated by profit who decide how and when we can use the internet.

The broadband revolution--much like the radio, television, cable, and online revolutions of the recent past--provides yet another opportunity to make our media system more democratic, more diverse, and more participatory. It is incumbent upon community activists and leaders, recognizing the power of broadband, to become more actively involved in the design and deployment of the new high-speed networks that will bring video, data, and telephone services to our homes and businesses. In an effort to realize the full potential of broadband, the Center for Digital Democracy is launching a new project designed to stimulate citizen participation in the broadband revolution at the local level. CDD's Digital Destiny Campaign will assist communities in coming to terms with the rapidly evolving telecommunications landscape, bringing new multimedia resources to the masses. Our task now is to ensure that broadband serves citizenship as well as salesmanship, culture as well as commerce. By working together at the local level, we have the opportunity to shape our digital destiny.

From the website's mission statement: "Our task now is to ensure that broadband serves citizenship as well as salesmanship, culture as well as commerce. By working together at the local level, we have the opportunity to shape our digital destiny" ... Good words ... A great site focused primarily on preserving public access to the internet and how we can use it to genuinely spread democracy. By the way, impeaching Bush won't solve the problems we have today ... imagine President Cheney ... Seek deeper and get to the core reasons why this group of people, including Dubya, are in their positions of power in the first place. With such power at their command, they won't want to give it up very easily. Those who value freedom need to be involved in any way they can. This is a good website for inspiration and guidance on a personal and community level.
