Rule number one, as learned by Dr. Pepper when it tried its hand at fictional blogs back in 2003, is that fake blogs don't work. Particularly fake blogs with fake comments. They're a waste of time, and don't impress anyone. It's been articulated a thousand times but apparently it's worth saying again: The defining feature of this medium is the individual human voice, which can't be faked. Jeff Jarvis puts it another way: "Would your PR department have a cow or a fictional character call a reporter at The New York Times? No? Then why would you do that to your customers in their medium?" Companies have a chance to talk to their customers one-on-one on the web. Why is that so hard to do?"
