much higher odds of dying in a car than walking or bicycling

Interesting. Though it's important to consider that the odds will differ from person to person. Obviously, if you're riding a motorcycle all the time instead of driving a car, the odds will be much higher that you'll die in a motorcycle crash.

Nice. I'm 19 times more likely to be injured/killed in a car wreck where I am a passenger than I am in a firearms incident that is not self-inflicted. Good thing we require background checks for vehicle operation. And everyone wonders why I always drive.

Lifetime odds are approximated by dividing the one-year odds by the life expectancy of a person born in 2000 (76.9 years).
