billiegirltoo discovered 3 months ago- From the page: "We weren't that. The sixties hippies were joined by a lot of Vietnam vets with heavy drug habits acquired in Vietnam. The news media narrative has these groups as opposed entities: supposedly the hippies spit on the vets as they dis-embarked on their way home. This is nonsense: It may have happened somewhere, but basically we were all the same generation as no generation will ever be again. We were much more united than the youth of today. We grew up on three TV channels and one Top 40 list for radio. Anybody aged 50-60 today can just about recite verbatim every lyric of every Beatle song. We saw the same movies. "

- I think the term is "yuppy", or "young urban professional". ;)

daratheresa rated 3 months ago- sounds about right.

skipp0023 rated 3 months ago- Who the hell wants to read something that starts with the phrase, "I am moved to write this..."?

technopatra rated 3 months ago- Pointless article.

SurtyrFoesmasher rated 3 months ago- From the page: "My ultimate point, I guess, is that the hippies of the Vietnam era and even the anti-war movement did not stop the Vietnam war. Watergate and the disgrace of Nixon stopped Vietnam. Bush and his Republican and Democratic enablers have already disgraced themselves many times over relative to the Iraq war. It remains for us and the so-far pitiful news media to point this out forcefully to the American people, who are just beginning to get it." One of my brothers was a hippie and this is exactly what he said on many different occasions. More than a few friends of mine parents, same thing. Don't believe this Boomer Hype about how they stopped Vietnam and all of that other tired bullshit. They were all in it mostly for drugs and sex, like the majority of teenagers and 20 somethings of today.

Lambdoid rated 3 months ago- I think war veterans are living proof of why you shouldn't fight unnecessary wars.
