What would Jesus do? Maybe not what many of us have been thinking! This is VERY interesting. I've never heard any of these suggested before. I wish there were some sources cited to look up. That's due diligence I'd happily do.

no, the author didn't pull it out of his ass, i actually saw something about this on NOVA (although.. those researchers could have pulled it out of their asses). but, it seems to me that jesus' response was creative revenge. which isn't any better than punching a guy in the face. so punch away!

Why do I feel that these explanations are about as valid as the whole "eye of the needle was a small door in a gate that a camel could pass through without baggage" that the church used for centuries to "unbaggage" rich people

Bullshit. The claims made in this article are completely unsupported and Silly. Jesus said "Love your enemy." If he didn't add, "That will show him you aren't a wimp!" it's because he didn't want to add that. i don't think he wanted us to think within the paradigm that the term wimp comes from. I don't think that his message is enhanced by inventing a cultural context where "love thy enemy" really means "embarrass thy enemy."

I don't know how accurate this is, but it's interesting.
