what? i know i'm not always doing my best, telling people they dont have to work at it doesnt seem helpful. its much more constructive to identify the reasons why you're not doing your best than saying repeating 'i'm doing my best' to yourself

Lyman's thesis is we're doing the best we can with what we got. Does this mean we shouldn't change? No. It does mean beating ourselves up won't help us. Or, as Lyman says, "You're still doing the best that you can. Maybe you could start by not kicking the shit out of yourself for kicking the shit out of yourself?".

I came across this wonderfully simple yet effective post about being happy with where you are right now, at this moment and not worry about what you did or didn't do before.
