RobinEdgar discovered 23 months ago- From the page: "Creation myths that tell of the sun coming forth from an egg are quite universal and can be traced back at least as far as ancient Egypt. The ancient Egyptian Book of the Coming Forth by Day, a series of prayers and incantations that were intended to lead the dead into the afterlife which is more commonly known as the Egyptian Book of the Dead, includes several references to the cosmic egg. Incantation or spell 17 reads, "O (Re) in his egg, shining in his disc, rising from his horizon, floating on (his watery) firmament, (god) who has no equal among the gods..." thus the sun god Re is referred to as being in an egg. Most cosmic egg creation myths can be readily seen to have been influenced by visual phenomena that are only seen in total eclipses of the sun, for instance it is easy to think of the sun as being born from the black disc or "egg" of the moon as it emerges from behind it at the end of totality of a solar eclipse.
