Coniston could refer to any of a number of locations in England, the U.S. or Australia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coniston Ho wever Coniston in Cumbria does have a "Lake Road", so it seems likely that this photo was taken within the boundaries of this Google Map image LINK, on Lake Road, Coniston, Cumbria. My instinct puts the year at 1920-1925, but presumably it could be anywhere from 1900 to 1935. The legend at the bottom seems to be an older style of commercial photograph.

Great vintage bike photos. I've never understood the mechanical principle behind building a bicycle with a huge front wheel and a tiny back one. I guess the more intelligent idea of having the wheels be the same size won out, as no one rides a bicycle like this anymore. Is that Conan O'Brien?
