    The fundamental problem for Google is, they don't "get" either Social Networking or Social Media -- which I've written about before now. So to avoid having to truly understand either, they're going the architectural route, which relies less on a detailed understanding of the social minutia, and more on the mechanical prerequisites. Neat, but naive...
