Nacmacfeagle rated 29 months ago- Germany turns World Cup soccer into a sex tour"The global sex industry has its eye on Germany, where promotion of prostitution seems to be as much a part of the preparations for the upcoming World Cup as anything to do with soccer.
Construction of temporary brothels in all forms is well underway, including 'performance boxes' and 'drive-ins' for the fast-food version of sex vending.
The multibillion dollar enterprise that brings Indian women to Saudi Arabia, Nigerian women to Italy, Filipino women to Japan and Russian women to Israel is now bringing women from all parts of the world - an estimated 40,000 - to Germany, where profiteers will cash in on the World Cup, the latest magnet for sex trafficking.
Many women are lured as well as forced into prostitution. They submit to or even seek out their traffickers for promises of a life free of poverty or abuse - false promises that pave the way to a life that is anything but free."
The World Cup and the johns
Thanks to Aunolam for helping to bring this issue to light.Update: It's interesting/unfortunate that I lost a German "fan" immediately after posting this petition. I'm assuming there are many Germans who do not support the sexual exploitation of women. Forty thousand women is a lot of women, and it's troubling enough from a feminist standpoint (and even from a humanitarian standpoint, I would hope!) that I think Germany as a host state should be pressed to consider it as something that is not acceptable to a large faction of the international community. If Canada were allowing the sex trafficking of some 40,000 women around a high profile sporting event you can be darned sure I'd be signing a petition against "Canada's prostitution of women." It's certainly a controversial issue, and I'm sure there will be a variety of opinions on it.

wwhitlock rated 28 months ago- Abolish Slavery, AgainThe Coalition Against Trafficking in Women (CATW) is launching a campaign against sport/sex tourism in Germany during the World Cup Football Games, 2006. It is called "Buying Sex is Not a Sport: No to Germany's Prostitution of Women during the World Cup Games." Please sign on to the CATW International Campaign and forward it to networks, organisations, political representatives and individuals for their action and signatures.I'm not a big fan of these internet petitions. (Where are the sigs going?) But this is an issue that needs more publicity. It seems the German government is allowing 40,000 women to be brought in to "work" the soccer games. Temporary brothels and other unseemly accomidations are all government approved. I'm guessing not all of the 40,000 women will be traveling to the games willingly. We need to put a stop to this and all forms of modern day slavery.

My guess would be that in Germany prostitution is illegal, thus technically untrackable. The preparations being undertaken do sound like there's some recognition this is going on, but what I've read it sounds like it is still technically illegal.
I would think that legalization and hefty taxation would fund industry policing to ensure that as many prostitutes as possible were willing, of legal age, and of no health threat to the public.
11:25 AM 6/5/2006 - Update
I've been told prostitution is legal in Germany. I still signed the CATW petition for a couple of reasons... It still sounds like there's human sex slavery going on there. That's a bad thing. It also sounds like this stuff is going to be going on right around the World Cup venue.
I know you can't force the stuff to be in another town or anything, but what would happen if someone actually wanted to take their kids to see the game. I know with American Football that the beer ads are enough to make me wish they weren't on when I was watching the games with my boys. (Both under 4 this year) I can't imagine having to take young children past 'women in the windows'.
Another Update...1:24 PM 6/5/2006
This was in response to some nice feedback from another petition signer.
Some folks see the exploitation of the sex industry as reason to make it illegal... others see it as a reason to make it legal.
I'm very close to believing prostitution should be illegal, as the 'seller' can not be verified as being a truly willing participant. By the same token though, I wouldn't say that (when I had a job) at work I was 'really' a willing participant. Meaning I wouldn't keep going to work if I didn't need the money. This doesn't mean network administration should be made illegal.
I don't quite cross that line for that reason. I also feel that there would be fewer sex slaves, rape, and pedophilia if the sex industry were legal, taxed, regulated, and monitored. It would also allow much harsher penalties for sex crimes that are unquestionably NOT victimless crimes, such as sex slavery, rape, and pedophilia.
Often those who would argue, like me, to make prostitution legal, would say that if there is demand, the World Cup sex fair should be allowed. I saw this petition as more of a smack on Germany's hands for #1)Allowing the sex trade to divert attention from the Soccer/Football and for #2)Not more heavily monitoring the sex industry there to ensure there are no human rights being violated.
I think I'm going to post these comments to my blog and see if I get any feedback.
Thanks for yours--

Germany will host FIFA World Cup this year
Addition to 60 000 - 200 000 whores already in operation (legally or illegally) in the country it is estimated that 40 000 more will be imported to temporary brothels to 'serve' sports enthusiasts between games.
The Official Site for Cup has decided not to mention porn industry at all, so no tickets-combos available...
As all imported sex-slaves will be likely to be returned back after cup, they are more than likely 'allowed' to work overtime and to offer 'special' servises to reduce transportation costs.
Going to World Cup in Germany means in practise a support to sex slavery
