I think this pretty much covered everything you can do to tighten your computer's security. Most of them free -- anti-spyware, your hosts file, anti-virus, firewall, browser, online scanners and testers. I know it's a lot but online security is a MUST nowadays. i probably have 9 security programs running. Most people are concerned that these would eat up their memory but mine's doing just fine. here are some of the FREE ones i've been using and have worked for me:Antivirus: Avast - gives me real-time protection plus auto-update and scheduled scans; many times it's warned me that the file i've just downloaded or trying to open has a trojan.Anti-spyware: Spybot Search and Destroy -- they said it's not as effective anymore unlike for example Webroot but webroot's not free ... S&D has a lot of features like real-time protection, host file and homepage locking Lavasoft Ad-Aware - free but only the upgraded version has real-time protection, auto-update and scheduled scanning). it has great reviews. Firewall: Comodo - you just have to have one. tried the ZoneAlarm but i prefer Comodo.Hosts File: MVPS - it'll instruct you to locate your hosts file, to be replaced with the one they will provide. they also send you regular updates thru email.Additional Layers: SpywareGuard + Comodo BOCleanOthers (not necessarily running all the time): Firefox Browser w/ Adblock and NoScript + AVG Anti-rootkit + bazooka + hijackthis + spyware doctor (memory consuming, not free but has comprehensive list; i just have to manually remove the detected spywares) + ccleaner
