    its been 4 months, wheres the rest of the story? or did the mayor/police department completely dismiss it, as expected?

    I don't think this is a case of Big Brother, I think it's more likely an abuse of power on a personal level. While this is not at all excusable, try to think of how the police have to put up with stuff like this. They would naturally see the general populace in an "us and them" light, and any irritation like this would be seen as contempt for their in-group. A reaction like this could be seen as stemming from a sort of besieged mentality. On the other hand, what that officer did is clearly illegal and unethical regardless of his personal frame of mind or professional mentality. The slap-on-the-wrist punishment was clearly too little, and this attitude should not be tolerated anywhere in a free nation.
