Fourteen precepts to guide us to some peace.

When fluffy ethics starts to infiltrate an initiatic system like buddhism, the result is stupidity. Some of the 'tips' on the page are even decent although not exceptional, but "Do not accumulate wealth while millions are hungry" must be one of the silliest things I've ever heard. The best way to learn buddhism is to study the earlier core of the canon, not the later exoteric and corrupt elaborations and above all not modern newagey books created to be marketable to westeners.

THE FOURTEEN PRECEPTS OF ENGAGED BUDDHISM

I usually despise lists, especially when they try to explain precepts involved with Buddhism. This one is an exception.

"Do not force others, including children, by any means whatsoever, to adopt your views, whether by authority, threat, money, propaganda, or even education."

From the page: "Do not accumulate wealth while millions are hungry. Do not take as the aim of your life fame, profit, wealth, or sensual pleasure. Live simply and share time, energy, and material resources with those who are in need."

This is list gives you an idea of why I became a Buddhist. Small part, at least. From this list, this is one of my favorites: "Do not be idolatrous about or bound to any doctrine, theory, or ideology, even Buddhist ones. Buddhist systems of thought are guiding means; they are not absolute truth."
