Bill Nye, the harmless children's edu-tainer known as "The Science Guy," managed to offend a select group of adults in Waco, Texas at a presentation, when he suggested that the moon does not emit light, but instead reflects the light of the sun. As even most elementary-school... more

Bill Nye was at the University of Florida yesterday. I assure you he didn't get any boos here. Religion will never be able to stand up against the truth of verifiable science. Bill Nye wasn't standing for his "beliefs," he was standing up for the truth. Don't assume he was being an asshole for that, for all you know the crowd could have asked him about that passage.

I suspect there is more to this story than what appears on this page. I've known a small handful of people that have met Bill Nye and all of them have come away from the meeting thinking Bill is a complete pompous jerk. I didn't want to believe them but I can't help thinking they are right and Mr. Nye did something to provoke these people other than state the facts.

A comment from the page: "Several people" are idiots. And this is news? Couldn't have said it better. Mocking ignorant and stupid people doesn't make you clever, it makes you ignorant and stupid. There's nothing progressive about it.

"LOL, Texas is stoopid!" Yes, most people realize the moon reflects the sun's light. Even in Texas, you smug assholes. That's not what made people in Waco mad. It was the fact that he took out a book that he knew they believe is sacred, solely for the purpose of belittling their faith. It was a dick-move, and Bill Nye knows it. Whether or not you share his beliefs, if you can't make the distinction, you're either willfully ignorant or just good old-fashioned rock-fuck stupid.
