- I feel best if I just drink when I'm thirsty. Drinking too much water just flushes my electrolytes out and makes me feel terrible. That can be deadly if you're doing something like running a marathon. I have a feeling the misconception that you should drink tons of water all the time has something to do with modern diets--especially ones high in sodium. If you don't eat a crap-load of sodium salt, you're probably not going to need nearly as much water. Humans aren't supposed to eat the amounts of sodium we do these days.
