Some really good ones listed...but there are plenty of others by some other renowned authors as well

I'm relieved to discover that I've already read some of these. In a strange way, I'm even more relieved NOT to find The Big Three Granddaddy SF Writers (you know the guys I'm talking about). When it comes to Top 10 SF books, they can come on like 800 lb. gorillas and elbow out every other SF novelist. Yeah, they were great writers...but they weren't the ONLY great writers.

I'm currently reading the dune series and i must agree. Frank Herbert is one hell of SF author(and his son, Brien, is also pretty good with words). i also recommend The "GOD EMPEROR OF DUNE" book which presented "Danken Idaho"- the emperor's right hand man through cloning. who presented the paradox of being the oldest and youngest person alive after being cloned for more then 3000 years over and over again after dieing for various reasons. you can also see a humerus light spoof of the book in "Billy and Mandy's Grim adventures" where Billy is cloned and kept in tanks to arrive right after his own death. well go on... read up :-)

Well, this wouldn't be MY top 10 list, but that's the beauty of opinions, isn't it? :) Some compelling arguments here for why you should read these books. I've read most of them, and I intend to complete the list.
