Reading those articles was a terrible experience. The writing is poor at best, and the story is dramatized so extremely that there's no distinguishing fact from fabrication. My guess is that some remote piece of the story is true, albeit molded in the interest of suspense, and from there it's one big exaggeration. There are no references, for example. If this is IT-department fiction, say so, because that's exactly what it appears to be.
