However long it lasts Last.fm, the social media site acquired by CBS last May, now lets users play any song from the Big Four record labels and thousands of indie labels and artists up to three times, for free. Felix Miller, co-founder of Last.fm, called the new service "the world's biggest jukebox, and it's free for anyone to use" without logging in. Planned is an idea that lets users -- once they listen to each track up to three times -- use the expired song for a customized internet radio station. NOW THAT'S SMART ... so long as there's no PAYOLA involved. Number 1 question: does all of this pay hard-working musicians more cash? While avoiding DRM? Hopefully: because what good tunes need is exposure and sales. Update: Last FM's move has generated a lot of interest. For developments read the Last.FM blog.
