I suspect this article is considerably dumbed down.I don't think you can patent an idea like "Use waves to stop hurricanes." You have to explain how the technology would work.From the linked article: "Intellectual Ventures just had a patent issued on automatic,battery-powered glasses, with a tiny video camera that reads the imageoff the retina and adjusts the fluid-filled lenses accordingly, up toten times a second. It just licensed off a cluster of its patents, foreighty million dollars. It has invented new kinds of techniques formaking microchips and improving jet engines; it has proposed a way tocustom-tailor the mesh "sleeve" that neurosurgeons can use to repairaneurysms."
