CiaranFromChance discovered 3 months ago- This is an awesome idea, I saw it earlier this year when the rapstar JayZ was down in Africa providing the funding to build these play pumps, it's so clever. If you don't know what play pumps are, you have to watch this...

Carl-001 rated 4 weeks ago- um... What ever happened to the old school hand pump. Cheap, reliable, no child slave labor required. Anyhoo, a merry go round pump would not make a very good merry go round. The pump would provide a fair bit of resistance, making it hard to spin it. regular merry go rounds have bearings in them to allow them to spin freely. The kids would probably play on the thing for a week, get board of it and find something else to do... (unless it ends up being forced labor) Anyway, I think the most probable result of putting this thing up would be that they would tie a goat or cow to the thing and get the cow to walk around and around. Anyway, I guess it does the job, one way or another...

cherokeepride rated 2 months ago- great inqenuity- excellent - using the resources at hand and the kids get to be kids

julweiss rated 2 months ago- From the page: "Kids play on a merry-go-round and pump water for villages at the same time. Girls benefit in particular because they are usually the ones fetching water."

w3bsmith rated 2 months ago- This idea is exciting to me. I love to see forward momentum and good news coming from impoverished or lowtech areas. Here's a youtube of it in action. Thanks again peasofgreen!
