This doesn't actually work and anyone who claims they've done it for any period longer than a week or two is lying. At best a biphasic sleep pattern is possible with someone like a 4.5hr main sleep at night and a 1.5hr nap during the day. Other than that, you're going to be sleep deprived and in pain eventually.

I watched a video of a test of this in my Psychology class... It started off just as this article describes, then after a few days they got extremely exhausted and the plan failed horribly.

It's damn stupid to say that REM is the only important sleep phase.
