Yes Google censors things, eg (albeit at the behest of politicians) pictures of the Egyptian footballer who publicly showed his support for the people of Gaza recently but it's not Google taking measures to curb some of the tactics used by blackhat SEOs that concern me. 'Hits', 'traffic', 'pagerank' blah blah - kiss my arse, you're search engine optimisers - you damn well do it yourselves! If your site was really that good and you stopped your spammy ways, you'd get visitors.

So your site can't be at the top of a search list because Google likes to keep things accurate. Oh no.

Artificial SEO wasn't created by google, it was created by people that wanted to skew the organic SEO so they could grab trafic for their sites using exploits. The "crazy" rules from google this guy talks about are the long list of defenses that Google had to implement to keep the exploiters at bay. If Google hadn't done anything, we would be back to the last-and-crappy days of AltaVista, with relevant search terms leading to crappy exploiting websites, filled to the top with ads.

Here's a hint: IF YOU'RE GOING TO DEVELOP A WEBSITE, YOU HAVE TO DO IT ACCORDING TO HOW WEBSITES ARE DEVELOPED, NOT YOUR QUAINT LITTLE IDEA OF A SIMPLE WEBSITE. Websites aren't simple. Google rules search engines. Google has rules to help them do what they do. Follow them if you want to build a popular site. Don't follow them if you don't realize that making a web page means making a web page and not some "simple" idea. Would you build a car engine if you didn't know anything about pistons??

If Google is already sending me 200,000 hits a day, I don't need to optimize shit. This guy got greedy and forgot his priorities. Build the site you want to build and let the hits fall where they may.

Mattbot5000 - "I quit reading when i saw "10 hundred million billion"". Exactly. Assuming everyone on earth used the internet (they don't), that would amount to an average of over 100 million searches per day, per person.

This misses the point, completely. We could go back to keyword stuffing and hidden text, but most people would probably agree the new paradigm is better. Unlike what this guy says, SEO was around before Google, it was just more blatant and much spammier.

Great blog - so, so true. I've never been able to get my site ranked on Google.
