- I've noticed that our "Newspapers of Record", like the NY Times, the WaPo and ChiTrib do a pathetic job covering social movements. When not ignoring them, they attempt to bury them with haughty ridicule. Actually we could use some smart hard hitting reportage about our social movements. That would certainly help us build better ones. Oh wait, maybe the media guardians of the Present Social Order don't want our social movements? Maybe they think it best that the unwashed rabble stay out of the affairs of their "betters". This is America after all. We mustn't endanger our democratic rights by taking them out of their dusty display cases and disturbing the lives of ordinary Americans. What the hell do We the People know about running a country anyway?

AngelaHayden rated 4 days ago- The New York Times Book Review has never exactly embraced passionate advocacy--unless it was promoting Pynchon's and DeLillo's place in the postmodernist canon. Even worse, it has become the place where serious feminist books come to die-- or more accurately, to be dismissed with the flick of a well-manicured postfeminist wrist.

- "But if feminism is as ā€oetacky” and irrelevant as its editors seem to think, why make such a uniform effort to stifle its prominent voices?"
Who says it's a collective effort? Maybe the books are shit because they are feminist. - "But if feminism is as ā€oetacky” and irrelevant as its editors seem to think, why make such a uniform effort to stifle its prominent voices?"

M-Nome rated 4 weeks ago- It amazes me sometimes how much power the media has. New York Times is a well-respected newspaper by many. Anything they say is accepted as truth. It sickens me how they use this to keep alive such awful stereotypes.
