When I first came across this site I was concerned about non-journalists rating journalists on professional standards. Hhow can you judge something you know nothing about? I've noticed that people tend to support or criticize journalists based on how they feel about what the journalist reports and not necessarily on professional standards. People like journalists to support what they want to believe and not provide information that contradicts those beliefs, even if it is accurate and objective. What I love about this site is that it teaches non-journalists how to objectively evaluate news and helps them develop that habit. In other words: it makes non-journalists think like journalists.

"In recent years, the consolidation of mainstream media, combined with the rise of opinion news and the explosion of new media outlets, have created a serious problem for democracy: many people feel they can no longer trust the news media to deliver the information they need as citizens. To address this critical issue, NewsTrust is developing an online news rating service to help people identify quality journalism - or "news you can trust." Our members rate the news online, based on journalistic quality, not just popularity."
