Bloody beta
I got out of it again after a day or two but
persisted here -- till it got too frustrating.
It is being imposed on newcomers -- and may
partly explain the lack of sophistication
in their offerings on here.
But there are only 1000 members of the SU
group which tests it, so still only a very
tiny proportion of SUers are using it.
Some aspects of the beta I still find very annoying:
- the fact that your home page is set to latest reviews by others rather than your own blog;
- the extra clicks required to see who has visited;
- the fact that visitors see a different version of your page than you do, even if they're using beta too;
- the lack of an A-Z listing of your friends, which made it easier to find a particular one.
And I hardly need to mention the
throw-everything-on-the-dashboard
dog's-breakfast approach to design.
That, above, is my home page in beta.
There's nothing "me" about it except
my name and tiny av at the top left.

- I HATE BETA! THIS IS UGLY, I LOST MY CSS THEME WITH SUE! I KNOW IT WILL BE A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE WE HAVE TO USE IT. STILL I HATE THE BETA OF SU! THEY HAD BETTER PUT THE SUE ALONG WITH IT! SEEMS SU IS GOING BACKWARDS NOT FORWARD IN MY OPINION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- SU is coming out with a new layout that is similar to the one you see now on review pages (the page you go to for reviewing pages). It blows. The editor is one of those obnoxious WYSIWYG deals, and you can no longer link to individual posts. SU, you're getting on my last damn nerve. At least have the decency to fix the serious lag that I get when I log in or stumble before you go fucking up everything else.

If you're interested in having an input into the development of SU, then have a look around here. Once you join, you will see your pages change to a beta testing mode (it has all gone the way of the current review pages).
You just leave the group if you want to return to your current look. It is worth doing if you want to have an input.
Update: Well, I did join, and have "unjoined". I have tried my best, but cannot get used to the new look. To me it is regressive and detracts from the current simplicity and ease, which has made SU such a joy.
Rumisong has reviewed the position, and I echo his views.
I also agree with VaVaVoom's comments. Claustrophobic and cluttered are two words which summarise the new look.
It is a real shame, as SU was an oasis in a desert of chaff...

- Check this forum out. Try the new beta version. Tell the deveolpers what you think. You may come up with advice that will help produce a more user friendly new look. I am afraid I think the Sidebar will become impossibly sad as it it filled up with "stuff."
