NeutrinoX rated 14 days ago- Um, they're actually missing the point any particle of dust falling into the plates will FUBARize them for sure. Unless you have a special clean room and recognition in data forensics, this is completely unfeasible. Otherwise, get some (costly) professional help. If something like this happens to you, well, should be a lesson to make backups more often.

Quenthel rated 3 months ago- How to destroy your hard disk for sure.

RyanEgan rated 3 months ago- This is a terrible idea. Don't do it.

cinrod1965 rated 4 months ago- That is not practical help for anyone.

praxisflip rated 4 months ago- Striction often killed old mac hard drives. I've saved one by opening it up and freeing the components by hand. Once you get it running copy all your data to a new drive because it will just stick again once it's powered down for a while. If you've ever opened up a hard drive and tried to scratch the surface of the plates you'll realise just how tough they are. Just don't get fingerprints of grease on them.

ma11achy rated 4 months ago- Not going to happen. Whoever wrote this was probably having a laugh

MechanicalMan rated 5 months ago- Why attempt to fix it if buying a new one is far easier?

SmartPatricia rated 5 months ago- Check out your hard disk.

markl81 rated 5 months ago- Guess I would try anything if I were desperate
