"While descriptivists and other such laissez-faire linguists are content to allow the misconception to fall into the vernacular..." With this kind of language, the villagers are going to be a the castle gates with torches and pitchforks.

One of my pet peeves, though I'm inclined to give some slack to laymen who haven't been through Logic 101. Self-described philosophers who misuse the phrase (and should know better) don't get that benefit of the doubt.

    For all you usages nerds.

What "begging the question" is and what it isn't. Learn this difference and you are sure to astonish.

From the page: "Print out BTQ cards and get BTQ shirts and other merchandise to spread the word." Eh be arkadam...

From the page: "This is why we fight." Umm, wow, I'm glad you're "fighting" for such a worthy cause. God forbid that the English language, and expressions therein, might evolve over time. Pseudo-intellectual grammar elitists are intolerable. Using the phrase "begs the question" as "raises the question" is so common, nothing is going to stop it. You know what they mean, so get your panties out of a wad.
