  • 8 Logical Rebuttals of Anti-Piracy Arguments

I've legitimately purchased (either via cd or online) probably about 40% of my music library. i basically don't feel wrong or immoral at all about copying other people's cds or downloading things over bittorrent; i see those as a completely legitimate avenue. it essentially comes... more

Ridiculous arguments. Pirating music and software doesn't put you in the same class as those that waged the Boston Tea Party any more than sewing the hole in a pair of socks means you're a fashion designer. And if you're stuck in an apartment the size of a shoebox and can't afford to buy music, you shouldn't be spending that dough on your internet connection either. In fact, get off the internet and work towards getting a better job. By the way, a "logical" rebuttal for the last argument would have cited fair-use policy. Instead, the article rants on about people who listen to pirated music not feeling guilty. Guess what. Not feeling guilty about it still doesn't make it legal. Yes, the RIAA is a big, mean, faceless corporate beast out to suck the entertainment dollars out of everyone's pockets. Don't like it? Stop listening to the music that they produce whether you paid for it or not.

From the page: "It's Not That Expensive to Just Pay For It" I don't have buttloads of money either, I just wait until I do before I get my music. I really hate it when people try to justify piracy, mainly as most of the counter arguments are piss poor. I mean, I'm not captain moral desperate to stop piracy, but just quit trying to make out you're doing the right thing, you're probably not going to change anyone's opinion. It's the same for both sides of the argument really.

i was hoping that this article would be interesting, but it's useless. Really poor counter-arguments. And this is from someone who hates the RIAA and thinks that piracy isn't damaging the music industry as much as they like to think it is.

I'm against real IP piracy. This arcticle takes to task some of the claims made by the media giants.
