Corrie ten Boom A woman who had spent time in Nazi concentration camps for hiding Jews in her home during the Holocaust. 52 and unmarried, she had lived at home with her elderly father and older sister Betsie. All three of them had been sent to concentration camps when the Nazis discovered they had been hiding the Jewish refugees. Corrie lost her freedom, her dignity, and her beloved sister and father in the span of a few months in those concentration camps. In God's providence Corrie was released due to a clerical error, just one week before the other women in Ravensbruck her age were executed. Corrie Ten Boom was truly a remarkable woman. I have read her books and have been inspired by her. She is one of a few people whom I would have loved to meet. She has been honoured in Israel for her work in helping Jews.

I remember hearing about her story when I was a girl in the early seventies. What a marvelous story to hear again and again. It was refreshing to hear about her forgiveness for this soldier. What a marvelous demonstration of God's grace and mercy.

I remember reading this book back a few years ago, and ten Boom's story is truly amazing. If you ever see the book The Hiding Place, I highly advise you read it.

From the page: "And so I discovered that it is not on our forgiveness any more than on our goodness that the world's healing hinges, but on His. When He tells us to love our enemies, He gives, along with the command, the love itself."

I too saw this woman as she visited our church in Denver Colorado in the 70's. The gentleness that emanated from her voice and the calm that she carried brought many to tears, including our pastor. She told us many things that were not in the book "The Hiding Place" that would make most of us poisoned with anger and bitterness. I shall never forget her.
