Current is produced in the battery when the sulfuric acid comes into contact with the plate. When a battery starts to discharge, it is the time when sulfates get stuck to the plate. Over the course of time, sulfates will get permanently stuck into the plates. When too much sulfate has accumulated in the plates, it can no longer be recharged.
