Some articles in the National Review are not asinine. This one, however, is.

If you were in his shoes, would you not prefer the fame of 30 years from now to popularity in your own time? Being popular is neither within one's own control nor, in the larger scheme, a goal worth pursuing. Doing the right thing steadily, as best one can, is. I like this guy. And I admire his guts, and his decency.

Fallacious logic: being one of the most hated presidents of all time yet staying in office makes you brave? Yeah, and playing violent video games makes you more susceptible to HIV. There's no link between the two!

Oh, and please don't call me Left-wing (or even Right-wing) solely because I thumbed this down. Neither is accurate nor correct.

Sing with me: Bush and Saddam, still "brave" after all these years... still "brave" after all these years. What do you call somebody who ass-licks an extreme criminal? A Bush supporter! Alas, this is just more evidence of poor souls drunk on hard, cherry Kool-aid. I ask Bush supporters to remember the axiom: There's a thin line between bravery and stupidity. Bush crossed that thin line long ago, in the wrong direction.

There's a fine line between bravery and foolishness. I think you know where I'm going with that. To make matters worse, Bush never once risked his own life, just those of soldiers. Soldiers, of course, volunteer to risk their lives in defense of the U.S., however neither the operations in Afghanistan nor Iraq have made the U.S. any safer, in fact they very probably created more U.S.-hating terrorists than they killed.

If you want to claim that Bush has done a good job, where the fuck is Osama bin Laden?

"What I do want to argue is that, after Washington and Lincoln, Bush is the bravest of our presidents. He has faced the most intense fire, hatred, contempt, heavily moneyed and bitterly acidic partisan opposition, underhandedness, betrayal, of any president in the last hundred years. He has faced hostility over a longer time, in possibly the most dangerous period of international warfare in our national history. He has remained constant, firm, decided, and generous (to a fault) with his opponents."

I gather being hated makes you brave, in Mr. Novak's book. Or, is it being incompetent?
