Ever at arm's length Should I really be surprised? It's not like you're the first person To surrender their ideals And settle for someone Who appears to exhibit Those tired old gender traits I suppose I expected you To manifest more uniqueness What with your thirst for authenticity And desire for independence When it came to the crunch I was sure you'd choose the exceptional Over something more run-of-the-mill I'm listening to some music right now Songs that you always said reminded you of me Well they better remind me of you I'd say Those words of uncertainty and insecurity Of the intense folly of misguided passion You looked deeply into my eyes Glimpsed the beauty hidden away in there And my whole being was intoxicated By the wondrous essence I thought I saw Through those deep brown windows to your soul But you chose to constrain The wild horses of love Rather than let them run free On the glorious open plains Of unfettered potential bliss Which confounds me still It was your birthday yesterday I guess that's what made me write this Because for some strange reason In the cobwebbed recesses of my heart A light still flickers In memory of you Ben - December 2007 This poem just fits my mood, Please visit him for outstanding words and beautiful pictures
