Australian Contemporary artist, installations, videos "Open a magazine, go and see a movie, it is all around us, artificial and sweet. The perfect and beautiful world of commercialism. The capitalist world is rife with excess and abundance. It's language embalms and symbolises the world through super realism." Adam Costenoble is a Sydney-based emerging artist whose practise to date has focussed on video and interactive/user-dependant installation works, however, Costenoble considers himself a non-medium specific conceptual artist. A self confessed existentialist, Costenoble's work draws on philosophy, literature and cinema that contemplates the human condition and the human experience in the physical world. Building on the historical precedents of phenomenological inquiry, he attempts to set up avenues for viewers to engage with his work in a bodily, immersive and interactive fashion - recasting the viewer as an active participant. Costenoble's environments solicit in the viewer an affective response which, via sensory stimulation, facilitates a deeper cognitive impact and level of engagement. The viewer, implicated physically through their interaction, is also conceptually involved as they are subject to the very human condition at the core of his critique.
