Try using Ubuntu. Or to get the same effect, just run a razor from ear to ear.

True story: I purchased a new LG P300 series laptop in the middle of August this year. It came with Windows Vista installed with LG's proprietary drivers and software, all of which I have had no end of trouble with. For one thing, the 300 GB hard drive came in 100 GB (main!) and 200 GB partitions. I have no fucking clue why. Naturally, I eventually endeavored to install Ubuntu Hardy (alongside Vista, because I'm a gamer), but I had work to do in between shrinking the "tumor" partition and actually installing the new OS, so I attempted to boot Vista again and was greeted instead by the "recovery" program claiming that it was "repairing" my system. What was troubling was that it would not let me cancel the operation, and the laptop's hard disk indicator was solid. Apparently, it was attempting to undo the repartitioning that spent an entire evening and morning to complete. Nevermind that it never prompted me first, or that I didn't have another overnight to spend, or that I might not have been able to leave it plugged in for that amount of time if I did. I had no choice but to cancel the operation via forced shut-down, which of course wrecked the hard-drive partitioning in its entirety. I ended up having to install Hardy over everything. And that was only two weeks after I bought the thing.

Not just a start. If you are tired of futzing with your boxor, and just want something that works, Ubuntu is great.
