These pillars of glowing dust and gas with embedded newborn stars can be found in the Carina Nebula, about 10,000 light years away from us. The pillars were sculpted by the intense wind and radiation from Eta Carinae and other massive stars. Eta Carinae is one of the most massive and unstable stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. You can't see the star in this picture but it would be located off the top left of this image, right at the location the bright-tipped pillars are pointing at. wonderful image sourced from 4dee's pages: "There are two ways of viewing this world: as if nothing is a miracle, or as if everything is."
