- The GOP Doesnt Understand Sex - The Daily Beast
Jul 7, 10:22pm (8 reviews) politics http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-s...
From the page: " ... the GOP continues to struggle with open communication about serious issues most people deal with rationally, and on a regular basis. Unless we learn how to integrate that kind of discussion, our party will continue its descent into irrelevance. We live in a big world, one where you can contract a lifelong STD, have an unplanned pregnancy, or get date-raped, just to name a few of the dangers associated with sex. We should prepare our kids for it, realistically. Then they might be more apt to make the right choices when they live in it themselves. Bottom line: Honesty isn't a liberal or conservative issue. It's a human one. The sooner we realize that, the better off we'll be."

I tag posts like this "fuktard-politics".
If it walks like a fuktard, talks like a fuktard and spouts holier-than-thou prejudice like a fuktard, chances are it's a conservative.

- Cornucopia Institute & The Authentic Almond Project
Jul 6, 10:33am (2 reviews) agriculture, organic http://www.cornucopia.org/almonds/
California-grown raw almonds are no longer raw, following enactment of a new federal rule. The USDA mandate requires raw almonds to be sanitized using treatment processes that the industry generously describes as "pasteurization."
The rule requires sanitation of almonds with a toxic fumigant or treatment with high-temperature heat. The scheme imposes significant financial burdens on small-scale and organic growers, lacks scientific justification, damages domestic almond markets, and does not address the unsustainable methods used on the industrial-scale almond orchards where the only two documented Salmonella outbreaks have occurred. And the treated almonds can still be deceptively labeled as "raw!"
- Northwest Native: Iris
Jul 6, 8:02am (2 reviews) gardening, horticulture http://www.portlandnursery.com/plants/na...
Of the fifteen or so Iris that are native to the whole of the west coast, seven are at home here in Oregon. Most are known as 'grass iris,' because their narrow leaves grow in a narrow-bladed grass-like clump, rather than the more distinctly separate, wider blades of their relatives (one exception is I. tenuis, which a 'crested iris,' having the telltale ridge or 'crest' along the center of it's curved petal). They are also typically lower-growing than their non-native counterparts - generally not reaching any taller than 18 inches.

Well, I am certainly glad Truthout got around to putting this in print - otherwise none of us would have figured it out!

I know in most localities it is a requirement that pets - cats and dogs, at least - are licensed, but do you know how dangerous it is for a cat to wear a collar? My cats have all been Libertarians; no collars for them.
