Anthrocon 2008, continuing to be the world's largest furry convention, is a collection of artists, writers, costumers, and performers from all over the world who are fans of fictional anthropomorphic animal characters --- commonly known as "furries."
This was Anthrocon's third year in the Steel City. Total attendance of the convention was 3,390, an increase from last year's membership by about 19%. The convention contributes approximately $3 million to the Pittsburgh economy.
Guest of Honor at Anthrocon was legendary Disney cartoonist Floyd Norman, who has worked on such classics as The Jungle Book, Robin Hood, and 101 Dalmatians.
The convention donated more than $8,000 to the Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue, a local charity. Anthrocon has donated more than $80,000 to animal-related charities since its beginning in 1997.
